Calgary, Canada, Shooting Range Experience

rajamohansub

On the day of my birthday ( 20th April) few days back , as usual in the evening we went out for an evening outing. To my surprise, this time , I was taken to the Calgary shooting center, which houses among other things a good firearms retail outlet , 3 or 4 indoor shooting range and the renting out firearms shop.

Missed out firearms training during school/ college days would be fulfilled today, I thought in my mind. After checking the legal status of all the participants, they allowed us to inspect the firearms to be rented ( which were on display ).. After some help from the renter we settled for 4 hand guns and a rifle. Glock ( Austria), Beretta ( Italy) and Benelli were our choices.

I could find one Tikka brand ( thought it could be Indian )which reminded me of Chickken Tikka turned out to be a Finnish brand.

Armed with all the selected firearms and the accessories, we have been guided to the indoor shooting range, after a brief introduction and training how to handle the firearms safely.

Excited to see almost all the counters in the range was occupied, we were pumped up to experience first time live firearm shooting. All along, the trainer was with us to load the guns and to oversee the shooting.

Targets were fixed and we took turns to shoot and it was really good experience. Hand guns are relatively ease to use than the rifle ( my first time experience assessment, our college friends in the armed forces may complement this statement).

As a first timer , I could fire around 60% of the shots within the target zone ( as seen in the target sheet) satisfies me and uplifted the general mood 😀.

After spending about 2/3 hours in the shooting range returned home with a different experience which could be cherished for the rest of my life.

Trivia: Only disappointment is that , I could see/ lay hand on the famous kalashnikov rifle.

In recent Olympics, India performed well in shooting discipline compared to many other disciplines.

Thanks for your patient reading.
