Cities around the world, including our own Chennai, strive to showcase/ exhibit their inherent talents in arts, music, dance, and pageantry in huge theaters/auditoriums and on streets to educate their own population and the population of the world about their arts & culture and to attract tourists. But street exhibitions of Science, Engineering & Technology are seldom seen in the world (to the best of my knowledge) except for the high-profile technology/ auto trade shows by the multinational corporations to exhibit and market their latest innovations for restricted invited guests and with exorbitant entry ticket price
TELUS Communications, a telecommunication major in Canada, through their Science center (TELUS Spark) in Calgary, brought an unique, free, Science, Engineering & Technology and arts Street festival this year, to Calgary (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beakerhead), after a gap of two years to promote and encourage children, students & community at large to make aware, appreciate and involve in Science and Engineering activities and education. Exuberance shown by the children, students, parents and visitors alike made the exhibitors happy and encouraged them to organize such street festivals often.
Interesting exhibits on the street include Prosthesis, a 14-feet., 4000-kilogram human powered racing exoskeleton, dancing, stretching, and jumping robotic dog, space gyroscope, robot throwing ball to children, space toilet model and many more arts and dance activities.
